Yahoo! Mail Woes

Today’s email is for anyone that has a Yahoo! e-mail account. Gmail and Cox users can breathe easy.Yahoo!’s neglect, your problem.

I don’t know if you’ve been keeping up on the news about Yahoo! e-mail’s security (or the lack thereof) but if you haven’t I feel it’s my civic duty to let you know about a serious problem that’s going on and Yahoo! is doing absolutely nothing about.

It’s been in the news time and again that Yahoo! e-mail accounts have been getting hacked and then used to send out spam, malicious links and some even held for ransom. Yahoo! will claim to have the problem fixed the next day but for some reason, it just keeps happening.

If you have a Yahoo! account and none of this has happened to you, consider yourself very lucky. However it can be a matter of time before it does. You can change your password over and over again but if the hacker is aggressive enough (a ransom for example) you can loose access to your account, e-mails and contacts without a way to recover them. Your friends may be harassed and even victimized by e-mails they thought they could trust because they came from you. What to do? Jump ship. Yahoo! is not showing signs of change and their tech support is literally non-existent. While your account still works you should switch to another e-mail service provider. That way you can export your info without a problem. I personally suggest Google mail (Gmail). If you have Cox internet you have a free email through them that would be a better choice as well.

If you would like more information about this problem simply Google “Yahoo email hacked”. If you need help switching accounts or exporting your contacts from your old e-mail account please let me know.

I hope you found this tip to be helpful. If you did please let me know, I appreciate your feedback.
